Bristol County Savings Bank expands John Silva’s role to include CEO

TAUNTON — John Silva has been appointed CEO of Bristol County Savings Bank, expanding his role as president, according to a press release.

“I am so proud to be serving the bank as its president and look forward to making a difference as its Chief Executive Officer,” Silva said. “Of course, I have the benefit of working with a talented leadership team, as well as dedicated staff, and see the positive impact they make every day to help fulfill our mission of supporting our communities.”

The transition follows the retirement of former CEO Patrick J. Murray, who served the bank for 38 years. Murray stepped down as president in May and will continue as chairman of the Board of Directors.

“John has done an outstanding job leading the bank as our president and Chief Banking Officer,” Murray said. “He is well prepared to take on the CEO role while continuing to share his vision for how best to serve our customers and communities.”

Silva will also take over Murray’s former position as president of the Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation.

Who is John Silva?

Silva joined the bank in 2016, initially serving as executive vice president and chief lending officer, and later as executive vice president/commercial lending and senior vice president/commercial Lending. Before joining Bristol County Savings Bank, Silva worked at Santander and its predecessor banks for over 25 years, holding various roles, including senior vice president and New England regional director in its business banking department.

Silva is actively involved in the community, serving as a board member for the YMCA of Pawtucket, the Rhode Island Bankers Association and the South Eastern Economic Development Corporation. He is also a trustee of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council.

Silva earned his MBA from the University of Rhode Island and his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. He resides in Bristol with his wife.
