The Bangor Planning Board on Tuesday granted a land development permit to the bank to build a new five-story, 53,987-square-foot building and a 13-space parking lot at 36 Pleasant St., according to the permit application.
The new structure will be built next to an existing office building at 24 Hamlin Way and the two structures will be connected internally to form one office space in the bank’s corporate campus, the application states.
The expansion aids Bangor Savings’ goal of supporting workforce development and Northern New England’s business needs, Wendy Durrah, the organization’s senior vice president and chief of staff, wrote in a statement Tuesday.

“We feel incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to expand on our footprint and customer impact, and we believe this project is a testament to our deep-rooted commitment to Bangor, the community where our Bank was founded, and its regional workforce,” Durrah said.
As part of the project, Bangor Savings Bank will demolish the existing five-story, 5,760-square-foot building that now sits at 36 Pleasant St. The company recently purchased that property intending to expand its office space, the application documents state.
The city requires the applicant to begin construction within one year of the Planning Board approving the project and complete it by Jan. 7, 2027, unless the board grants time extensions, according to the application documents.
